Fryslân has a total of eleven cities as shown below. You might heard of the "11-cities" because of the world famous ice skating contest which had its first edition in 1909. Since then a total of 15 "Elfstedentochten" were organised. The final one in 1997. Ever since Fryslân is anxious when the next one will happen!
